Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.

Answers to May Questions of the Month

1.    Who was Hannah?

Answer: Read I Samuel 1:1 – 20

2.    Noah’s grandfather’s name was mentioned in the Bible.  What was his name?

Answer: Read Genesis 5:21, 22, 25 – 27; Luke 3:37

3.    What is the difference between the tabernacle and the temple?  How are they similar?

Answer:  The tabernacle was built to be portable.  As the Hebrew people journeyed for 40 years between Egypt and Canaan, the Lord instructed them to build a tabernacle as a place to worship Him.  God gave Moses explicit instructions as to what materials to use and how to build it.  God also gave instructions on how it was to be transported from one campsite to the next.  Read Exodus 35 – 40.  Envision in your mind all the details as you read the Scriptures.

The temple was built to be a permanent structure.  Read I Kings 5 & 6.  Once again God gave the exact instructions for this magnificent structure.

The general outline of these two structures was similar, and the purpose was the same.  Both were places of extreme and deepest respect for God.

4.    What is the significance of Pentecost?

Answer:  Pentecost was initially a joyful celebration of Israel’s grain harvest, and also commemorated the giving of the Law to Moses on Mount Sinai.  Jewish tradition maintains that Moses received the Law exactly fifty days after the first Passover.

Christ’s death and resurrection happened during the Passover celebration.  Fifty days later during the Pentecost celebration, the Holy Spirit descended in great power.  Read Acts 2.

Christians still remember Pentecost as the time when the Holy Spirit is present in great power.

Sr. High Sunday School Class

We have had interesting and sometimes animated discussions as we answered the questions in the monthly newsletter.  These discussions seem to spur the kids on to learn more than just the answers, but rather dig a little deeper in each subject brought up.

We also have watched the DVD by Daniel Shayesteh, and were gripped by the truth it revealed.

Several class members have been taking the class instructions for baptism.  This is truly an important milestone in the Christian life.

The Young at Heart

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat....Ten of the  Young at Heart Group enjoyed an evening of  lively music, beautiful costumes, and wonderful acting.  Joseph was portrayed by Chris Vitarelli, associate pastor of Lakewood Baptist Church.

Mark your calendars!!  Pastor Keith and Melissa have invited the Young at Heart Group for lunch, Monday June 18th at the parsonage. More details to follow.

We will be having our 3rd annual picnic at Sue & Carl Myers camp in July.

Escape From Darkness

DVD by Daniel Shayesteh

Daniel was the co-founder of the Iranian terrorist organization Hezbollah.  In the DVD he relates what his life as a terrorist was like, and what it is like now as a Christian.  He URGES everyone to read the Koran so as to discover the truth about the Islamic faith, and what the Iranian plan for Israel and America is.

Also read in the Jan – Mar 2007 issue of Answers magazine an interview of Daniel by Dale Mason.

Creation Evangelism for the New Millenium

by Ken Ham

While this book is a “must read” for anyone committed to evangelism and world-wide missions, it is also one that the Christian PARENT will want to read and assimilate.

My Father’s House

by Corrie Ten Boom

Corrie’s childhood prepare her for all the suffering that was to be handed to her as an obedient child of God.  Her father’s love, compassion, and Christian work ethic steered her in the direction her life was to take.  Jesus was as much a member of the Ten Boom family as anyone.
